Honestly though, the two major posts today about this just come off as super whiney. If I could be made to care less about Nick Denton’s feelings, those did it.

Not only that, but really melodramatic. For one, the only thing we are losing is a website. Let’s not lose sight of that fact. People have been eulogizing Gawker for a week as if it’s a person or even a physical thing. Secondly, all of the writers are keeping their jobs - so it isn’t even a tangible loss for them. The whole thing is pouring over with drama and pity and blah fucking blah.

Here’s my eulogy: Goodbye Gawker, I hardly ever knew ya.

Blank spaces on each side based on the logo... This is why the W case is wider than the A one...

I mean I get the whole freedom of speech issue and the misusing the justice system but come on man, just start a new blog already. You’re just feeding the Thiel troll at this point.

Honestly, as far as I can see it, this Denton guy made a risky business decision (from what I can tell several of them) that could have easily ended his business, the legality of many things he or someone he appointed signed off on is a nightmare to anyone who payed even a slightly close look.

He then proceeded to anger, enrage even, a man whose personal fortune nets at least tenfold what Denton’s company is worth and he completely destroyed him, the “reporter” that wrote the Hogan story and also the company he works for, effectively ensuring he will not get a Chief Executive job again.

He took a risk and it bit him hard, really hard to feel sorry for him; as for the site, a gossip site that tries to pass it for legitimate journalism? As far as I am bothered it’s good to have it disappear as shamefully as it has.
